My first experience with CrossFit was in late 2008 when my workout partner and I went to a “functional fitness” class. Before then, I was a regular gym goer that mostly ran for cardio then did a traditional split lifting routine. I also did spin, yoga, Zumba, P90x, kettle bells, and any other fitness trend of the day. But the moment I snatched a pvc pipe, I was pretty much in love. There wasn’t a box where I lived so I looked at videos and the CrossFit website for many years until I moved in 2012 and joined a box. With coaching, my movements and strength greatly improved. Fast forward through deployments, taking a break from CrossFit due to shoulder surgery, retirement from a 20 year career in the Marine Corps, a yoga teacher certification, and a move to Wilmington in July of 2018. I joined CrossFit Wilmington in March of 2019 and met an incredible group of athletes. I earned L1 in December 2019 and have been coaching ever since. What I love about CrossFit is that it is scalable for every person, no matter their fitness level. As an older athlete with various musculoskeletal issues, CrossFit has allowed me to still be strong and active. Additionally, the community of athletes is the most positive and motivating group of people I have ever encountered. At CFW, I have had the privilege of seeing so many members grow in strength and confidence. I love being part of this community!
Wandered into CFW Jan 2018 … looking for something that could be challenging and keep my attention and man I found it . I’ve always just been the globo gym guy just going from machine to machine really not knowing what I was doing. First week at CrossFit even though I was sore as I can be, I wanted more. The feeling of accomplishing the wod was a feeling Iike no other. The goal when starting CrossFit was to lose a few marriage pounds 🤣 starting my journey at 204 and knowing that I needed to cut back on the sugary sweets . I loved soda and candy . I busted my butt in the gym with the guidance of some amazing coaches that pushed me to be better . I lost 30 pounds in 4 months !!! I was hooked !!! I remained a member of this awesome community. Forged amazing relationships. Fast forward to 2021 building a small group of badass of coaches to then, me, and Christine becoming owners . I love being a coach . Teaching someone how to become better physically and mentally is the feeling in the world .
